MH is yet another genetic disease that is potentially fatal.  It can be triggered by many factors including exercise, stress, breeding and even other illnesses.

A horse that has tested positive for PSSM usually has increased severity of symptoms if also diagnosed with MH.

It is also imperative if your horse is MH positive that you inform your vet before any surgery requiring anesthetic as MH horses often do not survive being put under anesthetic.

Less than 1% of Quarter Horses are affected at this time.

We would appreciate it if you would send us your MH positive horse's information to help us try to find the other source for MH.

MH has been traced back to an AQHA mare named Miss Ogallala - there is another line that we are still trying to trace the source for.
